Carillion and the NHS Crisis

The Crisis in our NHS deepens today as leaked memos show that unqualified student health workers are being called upon to step in and help as services continue to fail to deliver. This comes the day after twelve major Trade Unions call on the government to properly fund our NHS.

On top of all that private outsourcing firm Carillion, a major service provider across the transport, construction and health care sectors, faces liquidation this morning after warnings of financial ill health, which could leave thousands of jobs at risk. Most worryingly, quality of care and lives, are also under threat as Carillion is responsible for 200 NHS operating theatres, 11,800 beds and makes 18,500 NHS patient meals a day.

The timing could not be worse for an NHS dragged to the brink of ruin by a wilful Tory government, ideologically committed to privatisation at any cost. We have to get the #ToriesOut of office now.

From the People’s Assembly Against Austerity:

The #NHSWinterCrisis has now descended into a perpetual year round  crisis. A crisis that has brought staff to their knees and patients languishing and even dying in overcrowded waiting rooms and hospital corridors.

It doesn’t have to be this way.

When headlines report there is a “third world” crisis in the 6th richest country in the world, let’s be clear and call this what it is: an entirely manufactured political crisis by the Tories.

It is time this Government stops blaming patients, nurses, doctors, immigrants, flu and the elderly for their shortcomings. It’s time they start listening to the country who is sick of empty promises from the mouths of cowardly politicians. The Tories must heed the call of the public, staff and patients alike who demand that #ourNHS is not only funded properly but brought back into public hands away from the waste and demands of shareholders and bankers’ bonuses.

On the 70th year of the NHS we created – we demand that #ourNHS is given back! We must end the NHS crisis now.

Join the demonstration, called by the People’s Assembly and Health Campaigns Together, on Saturday 3 February, 2018:

Join Barnet UNISON members and our fantastic Barnet residents in amusical message of solidarity for the NHS.
We can now see what six years of austerity policies has had on the NHS which only recently was described by the Red Cross as a “humanitarian crisis”.
Accident & Emergency Units are being closed down along with many other local hospital services. This time last year junior doctors were taking strike action. Our NHS services are being swallowed up through the privatisation of services and we know what that means, services willbe cut to feed profits.
The next big threat to our NHS is the Sustainability and Transformation Plans (STPs) which is consultancy jargon for the wholesale destruction of our NHS.
The NHS needs all of us to stop the destruction of NHS. Download flyer here.
We are calling on Barnet residents to join us at the Midland Hotel, 29 Station Road, Hendon, London NW4 4PN on Saturday 25 February2017 from 7pm to take part in “Sing your Heart out 4 our NHS”,
we will have live performances from Barnet UNISON members and some guest appearances.
